WASP – “Neon God Pt2 – The Demise”
(Sanctuary)
Running Time : 46:37
Carbon copy. Photocopy. Wasp’s latest album. Fucking plain boring. And that comes from an avid fan of the band. Oh, to be honest, I thought that the first part was pants, too. A boring, over indulgent effort to replicate the “Crimson idol”. It failed to do so or stir any media attention. Here Blackie Lawless, continues with the tortured artist, bullshit. At least CRIMSON IDOL was brimming with great ideas and songs. Here he’s putting out two albums that could have easily been one, with the option of leaving a couple of boring tunes out, just to make a few more bucks I guess. It’s more of the same, just like the first part, but nothing’s interesting, nothing’s stirring. Lackluster songs, pretty tedious and repetitive. Nothing you haven’t heard a million times before. The less, boring cuts are the evocative “All my life” and the stormy but quite standard “Destiny’s to come”. “Tear down the walls” and “Clockwork Mary” are not bad, but not good either. I mean c’mon man, be adventurous. Try not playing it safe. At least Helldorado was gonzo, but it was fun. I had to listen to this album 10 times, to start coming to terms with the songs. But to be honest I can hardly find any classics in any record past Helldorado. A few good songs perhaps, but that’s it. My guess and secret hope is that Mr Lawless is gonna kiss Chris Holmes’s arse, for yet another reunion. Soon. Either write some solid songs, or bring back the blood and the mad theatrics, or fucking retire. But don’t just whine about it. I want to be either shaken or entertained. And this record, succeeds in neither.
