One of gothic music's greatest attributes is its ability to continually evolve. What began as a post-punk revolution quickly swelled into a mass movement, adapting itself to new forms of expression with new advancements in music technology. Artists such as Funker Vogt, Spahn Ranch and :wumpscut: integrated innovations in keyboard programming with the vocal styles and lyrical themes associated with gothic music to establish new genres such as darkwave and industrial. Later, bands such as VNV Nation, Orgy, Apoptygma Berzerk, Razed In Black and (most recently) Zeromancer opened new worlds of aural ecstasy through layers of dance and techno beats slicing through massive walls of distorted guitars. This latter sound was dubbed neo-goth and soon swept through metropolitan cities where countless clubs devoted to this invigorating new sound opened nightly.
